4 Tips for Mastering Restaurant Reservations

If you’re going out to eat this weekend with your family, friends, or colleagues, you may have to make a restaurant reservation whether you like it or not.

Whether you’re looking to get the most out of a good night out or simply trying to please your loved ones, these simple steps will ensure you get exactly what you want. Below are these worth mentioning tips for mastering reservations like a pro.

Plan Ahead and Research

Whether you are going out to eat with your family or having a corporate dinner, make sure to plan ahead. Restaurants get booked up weeks in advance, so don’t wait until you have people coming over before you start trying to make reservations.

Look at their open times and call the restaurant a few days in advance, or if they offer it, use an online reservation system. There are multiple options you can try out while eating out with your gang. You can try out Chinese, Thai, Turkish, or Italian cuisines.

You can also look for authentic Italian lunch reservations online and book your table a fortnight ago. When you’re making that phone call, be friendly and respectful. If there’s not a good time for them, let them know that you’ll be happy to take one of their last slots of the day.

Use American Date Standard

When making restaurant reservations, it is important that you use the date standard set in your country. For example, if you live in America, the date format is MM/DD/YYYY.

If you are traveling internationally and make reservations on the wrong day of the week or month, the restaurant may be closed or not have any availability for your desired time slot. Be sure to research what date standard is used in your country before trying to make a reservation.

Don’t be Afraid to Ask for a Wait List

If you’re not sure about your plans for the evening, don’t be afraid to ask for a waitlist. This will enable you to get in touch with the restaurant later on and reserve a table if your plans change.

Also, make sure to make a reservation at the right time. It can take up to 45 minutes just to walk into some of New York City’s and California’s more popular restaurants, so plan accordingly.

Have Some Flexibility in your Schedule

It’s best not to book any other engagements for at least an hour after your reservation time. This way, you have some flexibility in case the restaurant is running behind or if you need to leave early. The more flexible you can be, the better your chance of getting seated on time.

If there are multiple people dining, ask them each to call and make their own reservations because different wait staff members may be taking reservations that day.

Also, if you don’t have any other options available and all the restaurants in your area are reserved for the next two or three weeks, you can always opt for the pizza delivery option. Invite your friends to your home and enjoy a pizza party by the patio.
